KINGSTON, Ont. (CIS) – The Western Mustangs men finished the season on a good note, placing eighth overall on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 14, at Fort Henry Hill in Kingston, Ont., in the 2009 CIS cross-country championship.
Kyle O'Neill (Aylmer, Ont.) placed 10th overall, finishing with a time of 31:42 and helping Western's men to place in eighth spot, while Lynn Mockler (London, Ont.) was the top female Mustangs finisher, placing 13th (17:40.9) and helping Western to a 15th place team finish.

But it was the Guelph Gryphons once again dominating the CIS cross-country championships. The Gryphons women’s squad won its fifth straight title, while the men earned their fourth straight title
The Gryphons proved they are in a class of its own, having won both team titles for the fourth straight year.
Guelph became the most successful team in CIS history with the most CIS banners captured by a single school with 15. Guelph has obtained nine men’s and six women’s titles. The Gryphons entered the event tied with the University of Victoria at 13.
The event saw 25 schools compete, featuring 323 student-athletes from across Canada.
Fort Henry Hill will be the site of the FISU World University Cross Country Championship set for Saturday, April 11, 2010. Officials from FISU were on hand to conduct a progress update and officially pass the FISU banner to organizers during today’s event.
Western Mustangs head coach Bob Vigars will lead the Canadian contingent.

The top seven finishers in the women’s and men’s races earn first-team All-Canadian status. Finishers eight through 14 are second-team CIS all-stars.
