Anderson, Mustangs host Thunderwolves in OUA West semifinal

Feb. 27: OUA WEST SEMIFINAL: Lakehead at Western, 1 p.m. (Alumni Hall)

LONDON, Ont. - Coming off last weekend's back-to-back games against Lakehead, the Western Mustangs women’s basketball team will once again face the Thunderwolves on Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. at Alumni Hall in the OUA West semifinal .

The Mustangs will be looking for a win to advance to the OUA West finals for the second straight year.

Western closed out their regular season Feb. 19 and 20 against Lakehead with a split. The Mustangs captured a 67-51 win Feb. 19 but lost 84-51 on Feb. 20.

In the final game, Amanda Anderson (Chatham, Ont.) made the OUA record books by reaching second place in career points behind Cassandra Carpenter (2003-2008 Laurentian.)

Lakehead learned that their fate would pit them against the Western when they defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 70-64 on Feb. 24. They finished with a 13-9 record overall and with the help of their key players they were able to finish strong into fourth place.

Top Thunderwolves point guard Tasia McKenna led her team in scoring this season with 346 points with over 700 minutes played and will be a player to watch in this match up against Western.

Western finished second overall at 17-5. Anderson, a fifth-year player, will be called upon to lead the Mustangs through their playoff run to the finals as well as other key players such as rebounding force Katelyn Leddy (London, Ont.) and a new addition in late January, Jacklyn Selfe (Burlington, Ont.).

If the Mustangs win, they will advance to the OUA West finals on March 3 and would face either Windsor or Brock. The OUA finals will take place on March 6 where the West finals championship winner will face the East finals championship winner.
