Bronze medals for Western men's and women's track and field

March 11-13: CIS Track and Field National Championship, St. Denis Centre, Windsor, Ont.

WINDSOR, Ont. - The Western Mustangs men's and women's track and field teams both finished with team bronze medals at the 2010 CIS track and field championship at the St. Denis Centre March 13.

Jen Cotten (Barrie, Ont.) was named CIS most outstanding female of the meet, winning gold in the pentathlon (3,947 points) and long jump (5.96 meters) and silver in the women's 60-meter hurdles (8.55) along with several other strong placings.

Cotten ran the third leg of Western's 4x200-meter relay which finished with a time of 1:41.33 to earn bronze and six points. She also helped Western to score six points in the women's 4x400-meter relay which placed third, running the anchor to help the Mustangs clock a time of 3:48.48.

Sophomore Scott Leitch (London, Ont.) won the men's 600-meter race in a time of 1:19.55, while the men's 4x400 meter relay team - Brandon McCartney, Kerr, Rob Gooch and Scott Leitch - won with a time of 3:18.17.

Western also scored 14 team points, winning the silver (Alicia Smith, 12.35 meters) and bronze (Mila Simulik, 12.17 meters) medals in the women's triple jump. 

Fifth-year education major Andrew Judge (London, Ont.) placed second in the triple jump, leaping 15.01 meters.
