Golden weekend in Fredericton for wrestlers

The women's team won three gold andone bronze.

The Western Mustangs and London-Western wrestling club had a successful weekend in Fredericton, NB from March 26-28, 2010 at the National Junior
Championships.

The women's team won three gold, one bronze, a fourth, and a sixth to win by 1 point with a total of 38 points over the Burnaby Mountain Wrestling Club. Brianne Barry (London, Ont.) won gold in the 55 kg class while Larissa D'Alleva (Prince Albert, Ont.) won bronze in the 63 kg. Christine Schmidt (London, Ont.) came away with a fourth place finish in the 72 kg division.

The junior men finished with 29 points, ahead of Cattown WC (Regina) who were 2nd with 14 and Dino's WC (Calgary) who plance 3rd with 11 points. Two Mustangs won gold in Greco Roman, Eric Jacobson (Thorndale, Ont.) placed 1st in the 74 kg division, while Josh Proctor (Iona Station, Ont.) was  1st in the 66 kg weight class. Jacobson also placed 3rd in Freestyle capping of an outstanding tournament.

Mustangs Shawn Wheatley (London, Ont)and Scott Wheatley (London, Ont.), who are twin brothers, placed 5th and 6th respectively in the Greco Roman 84 kg class.

London-Western won the overall Junior Women's Team title AND the Junior Greco Roman team title at the National Junior Championships

This is the first time the team has ever won a national women's title, they won the junior greco title last year as well.
 
The gold medallists of the junior women's earn berths on the Junior World Team that competes July 20 in Budapest at the Junior World Championships.
