A 22-year-old golf star and aspiring sports psychologist, Charles Fitzsimmons (Toronto, ) discusses a nasty injury at OUAs, his joy in receiving a purple blanket and shares his future educational plans at Western

Q: What are you doing for the summer?
A:
I am an amateur golfer and caddy

Q: What is your current major and concentration at Western?
A:
Honours Specialization in Psychology (Graduated)

Q: Are you returning to Western for 2010-11?
A:
Yes but for a Master’s in Kinesiology 

Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: a) athletically:
I plan to continue golfing for Western and as an amateur
b) career: I will pursue at PhD in sports psychology and a career as a sports psychology consultant
c) general: I will come back to Western and continue to love being a Mustang

Q: What is your fondest memory at Western?
A:
Accepting the purple blanket award at the athletics banquet

Q: What is your fondest memory as a Mustang?
A:
I have two, the first was winning my first golf tournament as a Mustang at our home tournament while it snowed outside, and the second was winning OUAs as my last tournament as a undergraduate.

Q: Who was the biggest influence during your time at Western?
A:
My teammates have pushed me to become a better player and my coaches pushed me to become a better person and leader

Q: What other offers/options were you presented with when choosing a post-secondary instituion?
A:
I originally accepted a scholarship to a university in U.S. but after a year there, I decided to give Western a try and I’ve never looked back.

Q: What would you say to someone thinking about considering Western for post-secondary institution?
A:
It’s a great place to grow as a student and as a person, while getting an incredible education academically and socially.

Q: Years remaining at Western:
A:
Hopefully about six - two for a Master's and four for a PhD

Q: What is your most embarrassing moment as a Mustang?
A:
I had to withdraw from OUAs two years ago cause I sprained my ankle during the round and I still feel upset that I couldn’t finish.

Q: Who is your funniest teammate or coach during your time at Western?
A:
Alex Hrycko (teammate/friend)

Q: Who is your teammate who is most likely to succeed in your sport?
A:
Johnny Hall
Q: Do you have any superstitions or rituals (pre-game, in-game or post-game)?
A:
Our post-game ritual was to have a team meeting and discuss how we all played on certain days, often times over a cool refreshing beverage.

Q: Do you have anything else you'd like to add?
A:
I’ve loved every second of being a Mustang and I hope that I can continue to be a Mustang for life and one day begin to give back to the program that has given me so much!
