TORONTO - Several Western Mustangs, including recent graduate Jen Cotten, performed admirably at the 2010 Senior National Track & Field Championships held at Varsity Stadium in Toronto last week.
Cotten, the reigning FWP Jones Memorial Trophy co-winner who now competes for London-Western, won the silver medal in the heptathlon with a personal best score of 5491 points.
"It was an incredible 261 personal best point total," said coach Vickie Croley. "Jen finished second behind Olympian Jessica Zelinka. Jen had personal bests in the 100m hurdles (13.74), 200m (24.76) and long jump (6.12m).
Cotten also finished fifth in the long jump (5.64m) and ninth in the 100mH (13.80).
Mustang Jacqueline Rennebohm (London-Western) and guide Simon Hodge (London-Western) won a pair of silver medals in the T12 para category in the 200m (29.94) and 400m (68.24).
Incoming Mustang Taylor Stewart (London-Western) won the bronze medal in the long jump with a leap of 7.43m.
Other Western athletes representing their respective clubs with top 10 finishes include:
- Alicia Smith, Take Flight, 4th in the triple jump, 12.02m
- Mila Simulik, London-Western, 6th in the triple jump, 11.74m
- Scott Leitch, London Legion, 6th in the 400mH, 53.12
- Kyle O'Neill, London Runner, 6th in the 3000m SC, 9:11.15
- Matt Brisson also came 6th in the 110m hurdles, 14.55
- Matt Diston (incoming recruit), Niagara Regional, 8th in the pole vault, 4.70m
- Mustangs alumnus and Master's in Coaching student, Shellie McParland, London-Western, 5th in heptathlon, 4783 points
