Katelyn Leddy will remember her last regular-season game in Alumni Hall for years to come. On senior night, and facing a pivotal game in terms of playoff positioning, the senior delivered a 25-point performance to lead all scorers in Western’s 77-70 victory over visiting McMaster University.
With just ten seconds elapsed in the game, UWO’s
Laura Dally drove the lane for a layup, giving the Mustangs a 2-0 lead – one they would never relinquish to the Marauders. A Rebecca Moss jumper at the 4:11 mark put Western’s lead into double digits at 10 and, from there, the Mustangs rolled to a comfortable 31-14 lead at the first break.
After closing out the third period with a 12-point lead, 60-48, the Marauders slowly began to chip away at the score. A 3-pointer from Taylor Chiarot with just over six minutes remaining would be as close as McMaster would get for the remainder of the game. Two converted foul shot from
Jenny Vaughan at the 2:31 mark would ultimately seal the victory for the Mustangs.
Western shot over 50-percent in the first half but severely cooled off in the second, shooting just under 30-percent. However, a stingy defense that forced the Marauders into 20 turnovers made all the difference. Dally, Moss, and
Lacey Knox all joined Leddy in the double-digit column with 14, 12, and 13 points, respectively. Leddy completed a double-double with 12 rebounds.
The Mustangs will be in action again on February 18 when they travel to Windsor for a 2:00pm start.
