Kevin Baker signs with ECHL's San Francisco Bulls

LONDON, Ont. – Former Western Mustangs men’s hockey player Kevin Baker has signed with the San Francisco Bulls of the ECHL for the 2012-2013 season. He will join the team for training camp this fall.

One of Western’s top scorers since his debut in 2008, Baker was a key part of the Mustangs line-up for the past four seasons, racking up 130 points (44 goals, 86 assists) in 109 regular season games. His play earned him spots on the OUA West All-Rookie Team in 2009, the OUA West Second All-Star Team in 2011, and the OUA West First All-Star Team in 2012.

In addition to his individual awards, Baker was part of the Mustangs 2009 OUA Championship-winning team and played in three CIS University Cup Championships. He was also a member of Team Canada that won bronze in the 2011 Winter Universiade held in Erzurum, Turkey.

Baker graduated from King’s College in 2012 with an Honours Bachelors of Management in Organizational Studies degree.

The Georgetown, Ontario, native is looking forward to making the jump to the pro ranks and joining the Bulls for their inaugural season. “I’m positive we will have a strong team and look forward to getting off to a good start and having some team success,” said Baker.

"After four tremendous years as a Mustang, we are very excited that Kevin will begin his professional career in San Francisco," said Mustangs Head Coach Clarke Singer. " Hopefully, he can continue his development in the ECHL and get an opportunity throughout the year to move up to the AHL."

The Bulls are the newest members of the ECHL, becoming the league’s 23rd team and the official ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s San Jose Sharks. The team begins its inaugural campaign with a pre-season game against the Stockton Thunder on October 3 at San Francisco’s legendary Cow Palace.
