It was a busy weekend for Western wrestlers as both current and former Mustangs took part in four different events representing the London-Western Wrestling Club, coming away with six podium finishes.

"It was a great weekend for us," said new Mustangs head coach, Scott Proctor.  "We had great results from our Age-Group Program to our Seniors."

Current Mustang Michalia Walls took first place on Sunday at the U20 Ontario Cup in Guelph, winning gold in the women's 63 kg division. Fellow Mustangs Colin Johnston just missed the podium in the men's 86 kg weight class with a fourth place finish, while Anthony Parker, who's joining the Mustangs from London Central, claimed second at 120 kg.

Former Mustangs Steven Takahashi and Madi Parks stood atop the podium on Saturday at the Canada Cup, winning gold in the men's 61 kg and women's 48 kg classes respectively. Both wrestlers went 3-0 in their division, with Takahashi defeating former national champion Aso Palani from the Burnaby Wrestling Club in the finals, while Parks claimed gold with a win over Natasha Kramble from the Saskatoon Wrestling Club.

Along with Takashashi and Parks, three other Western wrestlers were in action at the Canada Cup, with Walls taking fourth in the women's 63 kg class, while Adam MacFayden (men's 61 kg) and Johnston (men's 86 kg) took fifth and sixth in their respective divisions.

Takahashi's gold at the Canada Cup was actually his second of the weekend after he won the men's 61 kg division at the World Trials on Friday. The former Mustangs went 2-0 in his class to earn a spot at the senior World Championships, which will be held from August 25-27 in Paris, France. Caleb Rutner, who took second in the 68 kg class at the U SPORTS Championships back in February, claimed fifth at the World Trials at 70 kg.

Along with the current and former Mustangs, three London-Western wrestlers represented Canada at the U17 Cadet Pan American Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Ingersoll's Brayden Todd posted the best result with a bronze medal in the men's 54 kg class, followed by Saunders Secondary's Joel Swarath coming in fourth in the men's 42 kg Greco Roman division. AB Lucas' Amelia Frisbee competed in the women's 70 kg class, taking seventh.

Takahashi and Rutner will be back in action this weekend when they represent Canada at the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid, Spain, from July 14-16.
