Varsity Athlete Council
TERMS OF REFERENCE
MISSION AND VISION
The Western Mustangs Athletes Council works on behalf of all student athletes to instill pride in Western Mustang teams. We work toward improving unity and communications among all Western athletic teams and administration while fostering positive relations with the Western community and the community of London.

OBJECTIVES
- Facilitate communication between Western varsity athletes, the Western Athletes Council, and the athletic administration in the Sports and Recreation Services department. This is accomplished through regular meetings and appropriate publicity of the Council's activities through appropriate media.
- Providing leadership and development opportunities for both members of the Council and all varsity athletes (ie. Outreach programs)
- Providing the administration a resource for feedback in all areas relevant to varsity athletics at Western (e.g. Program evaluation, banquet formats, awards)
- Promoting sportsmanship for all varsity athletes and adherence to the Athletes Code of Conduct.
- Initiating a number of activities for athletes and helping the administration recognize outstanding achievements of Western athletes. Examples can include: Homecoming, Orientation, Athletic Banquet, Athlete Socials, Development Opportunities, Community Outreach.
- Representing varsity athletes at and where appropriate holding membership on other sport and non-sport associations both on and off campus. Examples include ad-hoc committees, CIS and OUA committees, communications
EXPECTATIONS
- regular attendance at meetings, acting as a role model to others and contributing to various projects
SELECTION OF COUNCIL
Athlete Members
- Each year determine who is returning to the teams next season and interested in being a member of the council
- Identify students each year so that involvement during the summer could be considered and people could develop strategies for September such as First Year Student Orientation week, athletes social in September, etc.
Co-Chairs Selection
Co-chairs could be identified in September - if necessary, an election or appointment could occur.
