Alberta trip leaves lasting impression

On Oct. 8-10, the Western Mustangs women's basketball team travelled to Alberta to compete in the University of Alberta Panda Hoopfest. The Mustangs lost to University of Victoria, 77-61, beat the Alberta Pandas, 82-59, and lost a tough one to the University of Regina, 71-70. Kelly Moulden, Jenny Vaughan and Rebecca Williams share their thoughts on Edmonton.

Edmonton was an amazing experience! I have never been outside of Ontario or Quebec so it was a great trip for me to see that side of our country. The mountains were beautiful. The team came together on a different level this weekend that is going to give us a special drive. Edmonton also gave us a look at teams that we don't normally get to see and the competition that will be at Nationals. Looking forward to New Brunswick!

I had a great time in Edmonton! Travelling always results in a lot of team bonding, which was very beneficial, especially early in the season. We got to experience playing Canada West teams and understand the level of play we need to be at, maintain, and exceed to be competitive and have a successful year. We got to see the West Edmonton Mall which is even bigger and more amazing than I imagined - I was shocked by the sizes of the indoor water slides and roller coasters. It was a great experience and I hope we get the opportunity to travel out west again next year.

Our trip to Edmonton was a great experience. It gave our team a chance to play against some of the top teams and begin establishing who we're gonna be this year while identifying things we need to fix to be successful on the court. Off the court, we got a chance to visit West Edmonton Mall and see its indoor theme park, roller coaster, water park and seal show! Now we're looking forward to this weekend in New Brunswick and the rest of our season.
