Michael Faulds led the No. 2 ranked Western Mustangs offence to 606 total yards on offence in a heartbreaking 42-35 loss to the McMaster Marauders.
Faulds threw for 491 yards, going 30/48 with two touchdowns and ran 12 times for another 69 in the loss.
The graduate student also ran for several first downs on second-and-long, giving Western a chance to win by sacraficing his body for the team. He led the Mustangs to 32 first downs on the day.
Faulds now has 9,628 passing yards on his career, just 372 shy of the 10,000 mark. He is expected to start and set the record against York on Oct. 8 when the Mustangs host the Lions at 7 p.m. at TD Waterhouse Stadium.
He has led Western to the best total offensive output in the nation after five weeks, the most first downs and the most passing yards per game (averaging 370 per game) in Canada, along with nation-bests with 1,850 yards to date this season along with 12 touchdowns.
