Mustangs Field and Alumni Field are Western's newest additions to its athletic facilities, with both being unveiled as part of the Mustangs 100th Anniversary celebrations during the 2013 Homecoming ceremonies. The two new turf fields will provide Mustang student athletes and Western students alike with the highest quality playing surface that will optimize their gameplay experience. Located at the south end of campus behind TD Stadium, the two extra fields will help aid the growing demand for athletic space for OUA, intramural, and casual pickup games.
Alumni Field is the home for the Mustangs men's and women's rugby teams and is one of only a handful of International Rugby Board certified fields in Canada, making it possible to host internationally sanctioned rugby contests as well as a wide variety of other sports. Equipped with lights and electronic scoreboard the field also features bleacher seating for up to 600 fans.
Mustangs Field serves as the home pitch for Western's varsity men's and women's soccer teams and hosted its first major event in 2013 with the OUA Women's Soccer Final Four. In addition to full-field soccer, lacrosse, and other activities, Mustangs Field is also designed for 7-on-7 soccer with three mini field pitches available for use. The field is equipped with full lighting and an electronic scoreboard and features bleacher seating for up to 600 fans.
Both of the fields feature Edel Grass and are the first fields in North America to do so; providing an optimal playing surface for student athletes. Construction of the fields were made possible by a very significant commitment from Western's students, as well as generous contributions from Foundation Western and Alumni Western.
