MALE: Andrew Bergman, Men's Baseball (Pitcher, Third Year, BMOS, Pickering, Ont.)
Starting pitcher Andrew Bergman went 9 and 1/3 innings, lifting the Western Mustangs to a 5-1 series-winning victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues in Game 2 of the OUA baseball semifinals.
It was the second clutch win of the week for Bergman on the mound for the Mustangs,
Earlier in the week, Bergman picked up his fifth win of the season, tossing a shutout in a 2-0 win, allowing just three hits and striking out three Badgers. The win cliniched first place and home-field advantage through the OUA playoffs for Western.
But his gem of a performance was in the playoff win on Sunday Oct. 11, taking the team into extra innings, allowing just one earned run, four hits and two walks while striking out seven Blues batters.
He held Toronto hitters to a .133 (4-for-30) average on the day.
The Mustangs will contend for their fourth OUA Championship in five years on Friday Oct. 16 when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks in Game 1 of the best-of-three OUA championships at Labatt Park.
Game 2 goes Saturday Oct. 17 in Waterloo and Game 3, if necessary, on Sunday Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. at Labatt Park.
