Lauren Wells defeated rival rower and national team teammate Katya Huurman twice at the OUA Championships on Oct. 24 in St. Catharines, Ont., helping the Western Mustangs to an OUA banner. A member of the Canadian national rowing team on the women's quad, Wells, a transfer from the University of Tennessee Lady Volunteers (2002-06) and Universite de Fribourg (2006-07), won both the lightweight and heavyweight women's singles races. Earlier in the year, Wells lost to Huurman at the Brock Invitaitonal - making some adjustments before the OUA championships, Wells was able to step it up and push Western over the top on Oct. 24. A graduate of Central Secondary School in London, Wells and the Mustangs captured their 21st title in the 36-year history of the OUA women's rowing championships.
