Sophomore forward Chantal Morais had three goals and an assist, along with a shootout goal, in a pair of weekend wins as the Western Mustangs women's hockey team improved to 7-8-1 heading into the holiday break, moving into fifth place in the OUA standings.
On Dec. 5, Western edged third-place York with a 4-3 shootout win. On Dec. 6, the Mustangs made it two victories in a row with a 5-3 win over Toronto to jump ahead of the Varsity Blues in the standings.
Against York, Morais was in on all three goals and even tallied another in the shootout. The fleet-footed forward scored twice, including the game-tying goal in the second period, and added an assist on Western's other goal.
A day later, Morais scored the game-winning goal on the powerplay in the third period as Western held off the Blues for a 5-3 win.
