Dave Barrett enters the 2015-16 season as the Mustangs head coach following a one-year term as the team's co-head coach in 2014/15 alongside former bench boss Chris Higgins. Barrett was instrumental in helping guide the Mustangs to the best season in program history in 2014-15, recording a 20-1-3 regular season record to finish in first place in the OUA for the first time in program history.Named OUA and CIS Coach of the Year with Higgins, Barrett helped lead the Mustangs to a perfect 8-0 post-season record capturing the first OUA and CIS championship titles in Western women's hockey history.

Prior to coaching at Western, Barrett had an extensive background coaching men’s hockey. He spent four seasons as the head coach and general manager of the St. Michael's Buzzers in both the Metro Junior 'A' Hockey League and Ontario Provincial Junior 'A' Hockey League from 1992-96. Barrett then moved to Mount Allison University where he served as co-coach of the Mounties men’s varsity program in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) conference from 1996-98 before returning to the Junior A ranks in 2001-02 as the head coach of the Truro Bearcats in the MHL.

Prior to commencing his coaching career, Barrett played for the Sheridan College Bruins in the Ontario Collegiate Athletic Association. He served as Bruin's captain for his three seasons at Sheridan, was an OCAA First Team All-Star in 1987-88 and is ranked 11th on Sheridan's all-time scoring list with 104 points (37 goals and 67 assists) in 66 career games.
Along with his coaching responsibilities with the Mustangs, Barrett is also an Assistant Professor of Operations Management at the Ivey Business School and the Executive Director of the Ivey International Centre for Health Care Innovation.Â
