LONDON, Ont. - The 2008 CIS/CCA Canadian Curling Championships will be hosted by the University of Waterloo and contested at the Guelph and Elora Curling Clubs from March 12-16.
There will be a total of 19 men’s teams competing and 17 women’s.
According to Western’s head coach Rory Munro, you can expect to see some great curling from all teams.
“From the first rock thrown, the level of play should be exceptional," he said. "If you can’t get to Winnipeg and the Brier, this should be a pretty good option."
Curlers making the trip for the men’s team are Codey Maus, Scott McDonald, Mark Bresee, Andrew Clayton and Micky Lizmore.
The women’s side consists of Jennifer Scott, Erin Morrissey, Jackie Masongsong, Fiona Muirhead and Laura Guetta.
The winning team from each side will represent Canada at the 2009 FISU World Universiade, which will be held in Harbin, China. The FISU is the international university games held every other year.
The favorites going into the CIS championships are the University of Calgary men's and women's squads. The Calgary women won the 2007 World Universiade Championships, and the men’s team is led into the competition by two-time World Junior champion Charley Thomas.
