GUELPH, Ont. - Eric Simon (London, Ont.) had three aces, seven kills and three assisted blocks as Western continued to roll with a 3-1 win over Guelph at W.P. Mitchell Athletic Centre.
With the win, Western moves into first place overall at 9-1 ahead of Queen's (8-2) and McMaster (8-1). The team entered the weekend ranked No. 10 in the CIS and won both weekend games in four sets over Waterloo and Guelph.
Rookie Phil James (Ottawa) added 14 points including two solo blocks and 11 kills, while Mathieu Poulin (St. Thomas, Ont.) had a team-high 15 points on 14 kills and an ace.
A night earlier, Western's men's volleyball team moved into first place overall in the OUA with a straight-set, 3-0 win (25-22, 27-25, 25-20) over the Waterloo Warriors at Alumni Hall on Nov. 27.
