Morais leads Mustangs with three goals and assist in weekend wins

Dec. 5: Western 4 York 3 (OT) / Dec. 6: Western 5 Toronto 3

TORONTO - Chantal Morais (Guelph, ON) had three goals and an assist in a pair of weekend wins as the Western Mustangs women's hockey team improved to 7-8-1 heading into the holiday break, moving into fifth place in the OUA standings.

On Dec. 5, Western edged third-place York with a 4-3 shootout win. On Dec. 6, the Mustangs made it two victories in a row with a 5-3 win over Toronto to jump ahead of the Varsity Blues in the standings.

Against York, Morais was in on all three goals and even tallied another in the shootout. The fleet-footed forward scored twice, including the game-tying goal in the second period, and added an assist on Western's other goal.

Jessica Ulrich (Keswick, ON) was solid for Western with 57 saves, holding York's powerplay scoreless on four opportunities. Ellie Seedhouse (Whitby, ON) added a goal and an assist for Western, while Aoife Cox (Hamilton, ON) had two helpers.

A day later, Morais scored the game-winning goal on the powerplay in the third period as Western held off the Blues for a 5-3 win. Ulrich earned the win in Western's net again, making 27 saves and holding the Blues to a 2/9 powerplay efficiency.

Other Western goals came from Katie Dillon (Oshawa, ON), Brittany Buck (Etobicoke, ON), Lindsay Repath (Thornhill, ON) and Seedhouse. Tawn Rellinger (Colorado Springs, CO) had a pair of assists.

The Mustangs return to action on Jan. 9 at 4 p.m. hosting the Windsor Lancers at Thompson Arena. Staff, faculty and students are free to this game. Western also plays Sacred Heart University in a pair of late-December, road exhibition games.
