Strong doubles, singles play leads Western to first win of season

LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs men's tennis team earned its first victory of the season with a 5-2 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sept. 19 at the UWO Tennis Centre.

Western won the singles matches 4-2. Thomas Young (Ottawa, Ont.) and Daniel Andrade (Quito, Ecauador) lost their matches, while Robert Vincent (Toronto), Matt Jackel (London, Ont.), Kurtis Pliniussen (London, Ont.) and Max Besworth (Stratford, Ont.) all won their singles matches.

The Mustangs (1-3) also won the lone doubles point, winning it 2-1, after the pairings of Pliniussen and Andrade at No. 2, and Empringham and Jackel at No. 3 won their matches. Riley Horne (Vancouver, B.C.) and Mark Guevarra (Dawson Creek, B.C.) lost their doubles match at No.1 by a score of 8-6.

Next up for Western is a trip to Oshawa and the UOIT campus where they will face Montreal on Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. and then UOIT on Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m.
