Olexiuk-less Mustangs fall to McMaster

HAMILTON, Ont. - Keenan Jeppesen (Stoney Creek, Ont.) played well for the Western Mustangs men's basketball team for two years and Sat. Jan. 23 he had his chance to play well against the Mustangs. Jeppesen, now pursuing a Master's degree at McMaster, had 22 points and 11 rebounds as the McMaster Marauders pulled away in the second half to beat the Mustangs 93-64.

Ryan Barbeau (Belleville, Ont.) led the way for the Mustangs with 24 points and 4 assists in a game high 40 minutes of action. David Harder (Copenhagen, Denmark) netted 13 points and 5 rebounds. The Mustangs now sit at 7-7 and are 5th in the OUA West standings.

The two teams played even throughout the first half with the score tied 19-19 after the first quarter of play. McMaster was able to take a slight four point advantage into half 40-36. The Marauders extended their lead in the third and entered the final frame 64-55.

With Harder and Andrew Wedemire (Sarnia, Ont.) in foul trouble, McMaster dominated the fourth quarter outscoring Western 29-9. With the Western bigs in foul trouble McMaster took control of the boards, getting outrebounded 32-15 with 16 of those rebounds coming on the offensive glass.
