Record falls to 1-0-1 as Mustangs lose in 5-4 in OT

Oct. 15: UOIT 5 Western 4 (OT)

OSHAWA, Ont.:  The Western Mustangs men's hockey team lost a close one, a 5-4 overtime loss to the University of Institute Technology Ridgebacks in a game played Friday night.

The Mustangs recieve one point in the standings for the OT loss.

This was the first meeting between the two teams since the bitter confrontation in last season's playoffs in which the Mustangs prevailed two games to one.

The Ridgebacks scored the game's first goal but the Mustangs tied it at one on a goal credited to Jason Furlong on a play with both Furlong and Aaron Snow swinging at an airbourne puck before it was batted in.

The Ridgebacks continued to make life miserable for the Mustangs by taking leads of 2-1 and 3-2 in the second period.

Snow scored the Mustangs second goal on a power play, and Chris Corbeil netted the third after being set up with a nifty play from centre Julian Cimadamore.

The Mustangs took their only lead of the game after Adam Nemeth scored on a big blast on a rush up ice.

But the game ended with UOITs Ryan Oliver scoring at 1:35 of overtime on a hard shot that got past Mustangs' goaltender Anthony Grieco.

The Mustangs next game is Saturday, October 16 at Thompson Arena with game time at 7:30 p.m.
