Ross makes 45 saves in Mustangs loss to Queen's

Oct. 16: Queens 3 Western 1

LONDON, Ont. - Olivia Ross (Huntsville, Ont.) faced 45 shots as Western fell 3-1 to the Queen's Gaels on Saturday at Thompson Arena.

Kelsey Thompson (Martintown, Ont.) scored Queen’s first goal five minutes into the game. Only 10 seconds later – before Ross could even see the puck, Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) shot in another.

Queen’s third goal was scored on the powerplay. Ross blocked the initial defenseman’s shot from the point, but Elizabeth Kench (Gananoque, Ont.) was waiting in front of the net to capitalize on the rebound.

Western (0-2), battled back before the end of the frame as Carly Rolph (Guelph, Ont.) made a quick pass from behind the net to Marianne Filson (Denfield, Ont.) who tipped it in.

The Mustangs came out hard for the second period, but didn’t score on any of their chances. The Gaels had no luck in the second period either.

There were lots of penalties in the second period – three for Queen's and two for Western.

Queen's kept their two-goal lead throughout the third period, peppering Ross with 12 shots, while the Mustangs couldn’t get any opportunities on net.

Next up, the Mustangs face UOIT at 2:00 pm at Thompson Arena on Sunday October 17.
