First win for Mustangs and big defeat over UOIT

Oct. 17: Western 5 UOIT 0

LONDON, Ont. – The Western Mustangs came out flying and dominated UOIT 5-0 in Women's hockey on Sunday at Thompson Arena.

The Mustangs (1-2) capitalized on their chances right from the start. Michelle Saunders (Oakville, Ont.) scored Western’s first goal on the powerplay, which was assisted by Ellie Seedhouse (Whitby, Ont.). Carly Rolph (Guelph, Ont.) slid Lindsay Gidomski (Mississauga, Ont.) a quick pass on a two on one to notch in a second goal at the end of the first period.

Remaining Mustangs' goals were scored by Aoife Cox (Hamilton, Ont.), Seedhouse and Saunders.

The Mustangs had to kill nine penalties, but they fought with just as much energy throughout the third period. The last goal was shot in by Saunders on the third rebound after a long battle in front of the net.

Jessica Ulrich (Keswick, Ont.) stood her ground in the net, stopping 18 shots for her first shutout and win of the season.

Next up, the Mustangs face Team China at 7:00 pm on Oct. 21 at Thompson Arena.
