Perfect start for nationally ranked Mustangs men

MEN: Western vs Guelph (25-20, 25-22, 25-15)

LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs men's volleyball earned a crucial win in their home opener, defeating the highly touted Guelph Gryphons 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-15) on Friday night in front of 400 fans at Alumni Hall.
Western hosts McMaster on Saturday at 8 p.m. at Alumni Hall.

Mathieu Poulin led Western with 14 kills on 75 points, along with three aces, while senior Reid Halpenny had eight kills and 24 digs. Phil James was solid at the net with three solo and two assisted blocks.

Guelph committed 11 receiving errors and had a low kill percentage, while Western was lethal in the third set with a kill percentage of 38 per cent.

Andrew McWilliam led the Gryphons with nine kills and 18 digs in the loss.

Western is ranked No. 6 in Canada.
