LONDON, Ont. - The No. 4 ranked Western Mustangs women's basketball team proved their national ranking accurate as they started the OUA regular season off on the right foot with away victories over Laurentian and York.
The Mustangs easily handled Laurentian on their own court in Sudbury, Ont. 84-54 on Friday night even without top freshman
Laura Dally. Jenny Vaughn led the way for Western with 31 points.
Western would respond on Saturday and show off their dominance on the defensive end as they beat York 64-41. York would not have a scorer with more than six points and the Mustangs defence would hold the Lions to only five points in the third quarter.
The Mustangs will get to take this early season momentum back to the friendly confines of Alumni Hall this weekend as they host Ryerson and Toronto this weekend.
Ryerson has three games under their belt losing to Toronto and Lakehead and beating McMaster. Toronto sports a 3-0 record atop the OUA East after easily handling Ryerson and Lakehead and winning a close one against McMaster.
Western will take on Ryerson at 6 p.m. Friday night and Toronto at 6 p.m. on Saturday night. Both games will be at Alumni Hall and admission is free for students with their student ID card.
