Goalies stand tall in overtime loss to Lancers

Feb. 13: Windsor 2, Western 1 (OT)

LONDON, Ont. - A close game was decided by one goal in Windsor, as the Lancers women's hockey team defeated the Western Mustangs 2-1 in overtime in the final game of the regular season.

The chippy affair at the South Windsor Arena seen 12 penalties given between the two teams before the final buzzer.

There was no scoring with the extra player advantage though, as the story was all about the goaltenders. With 39 saves, Mustangs goalie Jessica Ulrich (Keswick, Ont.)made key saves throughout the game to keep her team in the game, while Lancers goalie Jamie Tessier matched her save for save at the other end of the rink with 40 saves of her own.

After a scoreless first period, it was Lindsay Repath (Thornhill, Ont.)getting the Mustangs on the board with the period winding down. Early in the third Windsor pulled even on a goal by Kelly Meincke. No scoring for the rest of regulation led the game to overtime.

In overtime, it took just over a minute for the game to end as Manon Davis put the dagger into the Mustangs as she slipped in a goal to give the Lancers the 2-1 win.

Unfortunatly for the Mustangs with only getting one-point in the overtime loss it's not enough to clinch the sixth, and final playoff spot as Brock beat Toronto 5-3 to give them 25 points, a tie with Western. Due to a tie breaker and Brock having one more win overall on the season, they sneak in the back door to the playoffs.
