Farmanara engineers comeback as Mustangs force Game 3 Sunday

Feb. 19: Western 4 UOIT 2 (Best-of-Three OUA West Quarter-Final Series tied 1-1)

OSHAWA, Ont. -Kyle Lamb (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) scored with just over a minute left as the Western Mustangs defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks 4-2 in Game 2 of the best-of-three OUA West quarter-final series, forcing a third and final game on Sunday Feb. 21 at Thompson Arena at 7:30 p.m.

Yashar Farmanara (West Vancouver, B.C.) had three points in the win, all in the third period, with a goal and two assists, while other Western goals came from Ryan Martinelli (London, Ont.) and Chris Corbeil  (Oakville, Ont.).

Keyvan Hunt (Coquitlam, B.C.) made 24 saves for the win.

After Ryan Spencer scored the game's first goal for UOIT, the Ridgebacks carried a 1-0 lead into the dressing room. Martinelli tied the game at 1-1 in the second period.

In the third, Tony Rizzi gave the host Ridgebacks the lead just two minutes into the period.

However, the Mustangs poured on the pressure late. Farmanara set up the winning goal just minutes after tying the game on after great clearing attempt by Martinelli. Then Lamb benefitted from a missed Farmanara shot to pot the game-winner with just over a minute left. Corbeil added an empty-netter.
