LONDON, Ont. - There was good news and there was bad news for the Western Mustangs men's hockey team this past week. They beat Lakehead in a doubleheader to get some breathing room at the top of the OUA West, but they also lost forward Aaron Snow for the rest of the year to a knee injury.
The Mustangs will look to regroup without Snow as they head to Laurier on Thurs. Jan. 20 to get a measure of revenge against the Golden Hawks. Laurier beat the Mustangs 2-1 in London on Jan. 8.
Laurier is now the team trying to edge the Mustangs out of the number one spot in the OUA West. They are 12-5-4 on the season, seven points the Mustangs who are 16-1-3.
Western will turn to Kevin Baker and Keaton Turkiewicz to provide more offence in Snow's absence. Both sit near the top of the league in scoring with Baker having 11 goals and 18 assists and Turkiewicz netting 13 goals and 14 helpers.
Goaltending has been a strong suit for the Mustangs this year with the duties being split between Josh Unice and Anthony Grieco. Both have goals against averages under 2.3 goals per game, with Grieco tied for the OUA lead with a 0.929 save percentage.
After the game against Laurier the Mustangs will be on the road for three more games before returning to Thompson Arena for a game against Windsor on Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
