WINDSOR, Ont. - The Mustangs fell 5-4 in a grueling 10 round shootout to the Lancers in Windsor on Jan. 21.
Josh McQuade (Grimsby, Ont.) scored twice for Western while
Steve Reese (Dorchester, Ont.) and
Julian Cimadamore (Concord, Ont.) each added a goal. McQuade and Reese both finished with three points on the night.
The Mustangs netted two goals in the third period to take a one goal lead. Thorburn tied it up for the Lancers with under a minute left to play, sending the game into overtime.
Overtime could not decide a winner and forced a shootout.
Kevin Baker (Georgetown, Ont.) scored Western’s only shootout goal as Tom Craig wrapped up Windsor’s victory after beating goaltender
Josh Unice (Holland, Ohio) in the tenth round.
Unice made 38 saves during 65 minutes as the team was outshot 43-33.
With the loss, Western still holds first place in the OUA West division with a nine point lead over Lakehead and Laurier who are tied for second.
The Mustangs will travel to Oshawa on Jan. 28 to take on the UOIT Ridgebacks.
