Poulin, Waite ready for weekend action against RMC and Queen's

Jan. 21: RMC vs. Western, 8 p.m.; Jan. 22: Queen's vs. Western, 8 p.m.

LONDON, Ont. - The No. 6 Western Mustangs men's volleyball team will look to rebound from their first loss of the season as they host RMC and Queen's this weekend. The Mustangs will play RMC on Friday night at 8 p.m. and Queen's on Saturday night at 8 p.m.

Both games will be at Alumni Hall and Saturday night's game will be part of a White Out doubleheader event with the women's game as those wearing white receive free admission.

The previously undefeated Mustangs lost 3-1 to McMaster last weekend but with a 13-1 record still hold a two-game lead over the 11-3 Marauders. Queen's is right on their heels in third place currently with a 10-3 record. While RMC may be 0-13 on the season they are not a team that Western can look past to the Saturday matchup against Queen's.

With a hold on first place Western naturally has a number of players in the top five statistically. Mathieu Poulin is first in the OUA with 20 aces and third in the league with 4.4 points per set. Mathew Waite is fifth in the league with 1.14 blocks per set. Patrick Johnston and Reid Halpenny are first and second in the league with 141 and 134 digs each.

RMC is led by the attack of Paul Demers, in the top ten in points per set. Western will look to shut down the play of Joren Zeeman, who is leading the OUA with 4.6 points per set.
