Mustangs set to lock up second seed at annual Jam the Gym promotion

Feb. 12: Waterloo vs. Western, 1 p.m., Alumni Hall

LONDON, Ont. - The CIS No. 5 ranked Western Mustangs aim to finish the regular season strong as they have three games remaining and currently sit in second place in the OUA West. The Mustangs are home for their final three games, with a matchup against Waterloo on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m in the annual Jam the Gym promotion.

The 16-3 Mustangs need a win to clinch second place in the OUA West. The 0-18 Waterloo Warriors will look to play spoiler against the Mustangs. The young Waterloo squad has spread out their scoring with second-year Erin Tilley leading the team with 9.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. 

The Mustangs rank first in the OUA in both field-goal percentage and three-point shooting percentage at 44.9% and 37.5%. The Mustangs offence is led by Matteke Hutzler at 13.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, with Jenny Vaughan adding 12.6 points per game and just under 4 assists per game.

Following this week's game against Waterloo the Mustangs will be home to finish the season as they have a big doubleheader against the Lakehead Thunderwolves next weekend. The Mustangs will face Lakehead on Friday, Feb. 18 and Feb. 19, with both games tipping off in Alumni Hall at 6 p.m.
