Mustangs up against Waterloo's hot goaltending in semi-finals

Feb. 24: Game 1, Waterloo vs. Western, 7:30 p.m., Thompson Arena

LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs will host the Waterloo Warriors in game one of the OUA West semi-finals best-of-three series on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at Thompson Arena. Game two will be played in Waterloo on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and game three, if necessary, will be Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. at Thompson Arena in London.

The Mustangs swept their first round series 2-0 against Windsor. The Mustangs won at home 4-1 and won on the road 4-2 to take the series. 

Steve Reese scored two goals for Western with Julian Cimadore and Kyle Lamb netted the other goals. Lamb scored another goal in the 4-2 road win with Keaton Turkiewicz, Josh McQuade and Chris Corbeil adding the other goals. Anthony Greico was strong in net for both games saving 58 of the 61 shots he faced. 

Waterloo advanced to the OUA West semi-finals by upsetting Lakehead two games to none. The Warriors won 5-0 at home and then travelled to Thunder Bay to blank the Thunderwolves 3-0 on their home ice.  Waterloo's Keaton Hartigan was dominant in net as he made 27 saves in game one and then 35 saves on the road to earn both shutouts. 

Western swept the season series between the two teams 3-0 this year, outscoring the Warriors 17-7 in the three games. However, the two teams have not faced each other since the beginning of November. The Mustangs won 4-3 on Oct. 23, 8-1 on Oct. 29 and 5-3 on Nov. 6.
