Game Preview: Western vs. Toronto

The Western Mustangs women’s hockey team hits the road for their first away game of the season on Friday against the University of Toronto. The team’s first six of seven games are at Thompson Arena, and Friday’s game marks the middle of this home streak to give the ‘Stangs a chance to play away from home ice.

So far the Mustangs are 3-1 and tied for second in the OUA. The team won its first three games at home, including a huge victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks 7-2 in Western’s home opener. The winning streak ended on Sunday as Guelph Gryphons shut out the team 2-0 with an impressive penalty kill stopping the Mustangs’ chances to score.

Western last played the Varsity Blues in February in the first round of the OUA playoffs, where the Mustangs took the series in two games and only allowed two goals. Mustang goalie Kelly Campbell looks to rebound after Sunday’s loss this weekend to stay in second spot for the most saves in the OUA.

Rookie forward Cassidy Gosling is in the top ten in OUA scoring, following teammate Stacey Scott who sits in sixth place. Gosling has three goals in four games and is aiming to be a new threat for the Mustangs’ offensive line.

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at Varsity Arena in Toronto.
