Box Score TORONTO, Ont. - The Western Mustangs men’s volleyball headed to Toronto to face the Toronto Varsity Blues in the team’s season opening contest. The Mustangs dominated the court in their first game of 2012-13 defeating the Toronto Varsity Blues 3-0 in straight sets.
Set scores were 25-17, 25-13, 25-16.
Justin Scapinello led the Mustangs with nine kills on 19 attempts with a game high of 14.5 points in three sets followed closely by Patrick Johnson who earned 14 points with 13 kills on 22 attempts. Overall the Mustangs ended up with a team kill percentage of 51.6%.
Other players standing out were setter Sean McKay who contributed 31 assists helping the team sweep their opponent and Garrett May who was named player of the game.
The Mustangs were consistent through all three sets first taking the Blues 25-17, and quickly finishing the game with only two more sets winning 25-13 and 25-16.
Western heads to Ryerson tomorrow to play the Rams and close out their season opening weekend. Next week the Mustangs plays Waterloo on Friday, November 2 at 8:00 p.m. followed by a game against Guelph on Saturday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
