The Western Mustangs women's lacrosse team began its quest to defend the OUA Championship title today at Queen's University. Despite the cold, rainy weather, the Mustangs played a decisive game and continued an undefeated streak with a 14-3 victory over the York Lions in the quarterfinal round.

The game started slow with teams trading goals in the first 14 minutes and then Western methodically added 8 straight goals and took a 9-2 lead into the half.

Maddison Crowther managed two goals and teammate Tawnie Johnson led the way for the Mustangs with three goals of her own.

Michelle Farrugia (1G, 2A) and Emmi Morris (3G, 1 A) were also assets to the Mustangs win. Tasha MacDonald, Kelsey Crean, Micheala Naumovski all added singles.

Western controlled the second half, adding another 5 goals to their tally with defence holding strong and even contributed with some great offensive plays, courtesy of senior Clare Webb with one goal.

Head coach Dave Hastings was pleased with the result.  “It’s a good start to the tournament and great to see our offense clicking."

The Mustangs will face the home team Queen's Gaels later tonight in the OUA semi-final.
