Mustangs win bronze at OUA Men's Water Polo Championship

OTTAWA – After two strong days of competition, the Western Mustangs men’s water polo team made it into the medal round of the OUA Championship on Sunday in Ottawa. Western improved upon their seventh place finish in last year’s tournament, defeating the Ottawa Gee-Gees for the bronze medal.

The Mustangs started their day with a 9:00 a.m. showdown with the host and defending champion Carleton Ravens. Despite Daniel Abraham having another multi-goal game, this time scoring four, the Ravens proved why they were one of the teams to beat, defeating Western 16-8 to earn a spot in the finals against Toronto.

Back in the pool at 2:00 p.m. the Mustangs took on the Gee-Gees in a hard-fought contest. Abraham again led the way for Western, putting in his second four-goal performance of the day to cement his spot on the OUA All-Star team. The Gee-Gees had two four goal scorers of their own, but they were unable to overcome the Mustangs, with Western earning a 15-12 win to claim the bronze medal.

The Toronto Varsity Blues would go on to capture their 29th provincial title in team history, defeating Carleton 11-7 in the final.
