Western @ Waterloo - Saturday, November 24 at 2:00pm
The Lady ‘Stangs take their talents to the tri-city this weekend as they face off versus the Waterloo Warriors. Western coming off a shootout victory over the Lancers, look to start a winning streak that came to the end at the hands of UOIT. The Clark Higgins led squad will look to continue their stingy play in the back end led by goaltender Kelly Campbell and scoring from Kendra Deller and company. The Mustangs put their 9-3-1 record on the line versus a Waterloo team with a 3-8-2 record.
The Warrior squad has struggled to find the back of the net with only 15 goals on the season. But when they do the scoring more often than not has come from Kelly Maclean who has nine points and Marissa Redmond who has chipped in with seven. Despite their place in the standing goaltender Rebecca Bouwhuis has been stout with a save percentage of .910 and a goals against average of 2.75 stopping 323 shots in the process.
The Mustangs who split their home and away contests on the weekend head in to the weekend’s contests only four points behind the leaders in the OUA. Stacee Scott and Kryshandra Green have paced the red hot Mustangs offense with 13 and 12 points respectively while Kelly Campbell has been a wall between the pipes with a 1.95 goals against average and an astounding .946 save percentage giving her teammates the ability to be aggressive.
Game time starts at 2:00pm on Saturday afternoon in Waterloo.
Western @ Laurier - Sunday, November 25 @ 7:30pm
The rivalry between the Golden Hawks and the Mustangs extends beyond the gridiron this Sunday as two of the top teams battle in what has the makings to be one of the best games in the CIS all season. Western currently sitting third with a 9-3-1 record face a Laurier team who is a perennial powerhouse and sits with an 11-1-1 tied for tops in the OUA. Expect this game to be a 60 min back and forth battle where it may go down to who takes the last shot in a contest where some of the best players in the CIS can be found playing in.
The perennial powers from Laurier are hot coming into the game with a 9-0-1 mark in their previous ten games on a mission to get back to the CIS championships once again. They are a deep team in both ends of the ice having a roster filled with players that can put the puck in the back of the net. Devon Skeats and Laura Brooker are among those leaders with nine and seven goals each. If Western expects to win they will have to limit these two players among others. Defensively Erika Thunder has led the Golden Hawk squad backstopping Laurier to eight out of their eleven wins with three shutouts and a 1.82 goals against average in the process.
Western comes into the contest off the heels of a 3-2 shootout victory on the road versus a tough Lancers squad. This contest against Laurier will be one of their most difficult challenges of the campaign. They will rely on the scoring of Katelyn Gosling and Carly Rolph who has nine assists and seven goals respectively to provide some offense. This game will be a battle of two top goaltenders as veteran Kelly Campbell will look to outduel Erika Thunder.
