The Purple and White take to the hardwood one final time for the fall semester this Saturday, December 1 down the 401 highway in Kingston. The Mustangs, fresh off their first victory of the season over the Varsity Blues, face a dynamic Queen’s squad that sits at 5-1 tied for second place in a very competitive OUA East. Despite its 1-5 record, Western is tied with a slew of teams for third place; two points and a win would draw the team to a tie with Laurier for second place in the OUA as the fall semester draws to an end as December approaches.

The Gaels play a dynamic scoring game, led by Kingston native and Holy Cross alum Greg Faulkner who is averaging a gaudy 19.7 points per game for his forward position. His point production contributes greatly to the second highest scoring team in the OUA behind Carleton. Faulkner is a dual threat in the paint notching 9.5 rebounds per game. Limiting Queen’s second chance opportunities is a must for the Mustangs. Western will have to be stout inside the paint, play solid defence and limit Faulkner’s opportunities if they look to upset the Gaels.

London native and Oakridge product Peter Scholtes leads the Mustangs. The 6’5” forward is averaging a solid 12.7 points per game.  With standout performances thus far from Greg Morrow – who notched 21 in Western’s first win over Toronto – combined with the young squad gelling together more each game, the Mustangs are capable of an upset if the group of talented players get hot at the right time.

Game time is set for 8:00pm on Saturday evening in Kingston. The game will be live streamed and can be seen on SSN Canada’s website.
