The Western Mustangs men’s hockey team ride a 15 game winning streak into Waterloo to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks on Thursday night. The Mustangs will be looking for win number 16 after coming off a 5-2 win in Oshawa against the OUIT Ridgebacks, while the Golden Hawks will be looking to rebound from a tough 6-2 loss last Saturday at the hands of the Windsor Lancers.
The young Golden Hawks team is lead by senior goaltender Ryan Daniels who has played all but three games between the pipes this season. Daniels has 625 saves so far this year, good for second in the CIS. The Golden Hawks are lead offensively by sophomore forward Tyler Stothers who leads Laurier with 18 points this season.
The Mustangs will continue to rely on another strong team effort coming off big three point games from forward
Adam Stoykewych (2 goals, 1 assist) and defenseman
Brandon Greenside (2 goals, 1 assist) against UOIT. The Mustangs will look to forwards Steven Reese,
Matt Clarke and forward
Daniel Erlich to help out the offence, lead by Reese who is the CIS leader in assists with 25, both Erlich and Clarke are in the top 10 in assists as well with 21 and 18 respectively .
