The Western Mustangs men’s basketball team is ready to bounce back on home court at Alumni Hall on Saturday, January 5 to take on the Brock Badgers. After a shaky start to the opening semester, the Western is set to even out its 1-6 record and use the training time to build better team chemistry in the season’s second half.
The Mustangs’ best game was against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, where the home team controlled both ends of the court and maintained a convincing lead throughout the entire game. The Stangs look to revisit that success, which included contributions from co-captain Quinn Henderson, second-year Ryan Higgins, and rookie George Johnson.
Peter Scholtes stands 15
th in the OUA for three-point scoring, and looks to be a force in the open corner come Saturday. Teammate Gregory Morrow has had game-high 20 point games, and aims to build consistency in the back half of the season to improve his 19
th place OUA ranking.
The Brock Badgers stand fourth in the OUA with a 2-5 record, scoring 471 points for and 564 against. Fourth-year Mark Gibson leads the Badgers with 102 points and a 48.0 field goal percentage. Jameson Tipping contributes to the Badgers’ defense with 49 total rebounds, nearly all from Brock’s side of the court. Brandon John contributes with a high three-point percentage, sinking 80% of his shots from the far line in six games played.
This contest will certainly be a rivaled one for the Mustangs, who look to regroup for a competitive start to the second half of the OUA season, hoping to make a push for a playoff spot in February. Game time is set for 3:00pm on Saturday, January 5 at Alumni Hall.
