The Western Mustangs men’s volleyball team had a tough weekend on the road, falling to both the McMaster Marauders and the York Lions in close sets. With the aim of returning to their winning streak, the Mustangs step back on to the court this weekend to challenge the Ryerson Rams and the Toronto Varsity Blues in Alumni Hall, both of whom they beat in October.
The Mustangs currently hold a 2012-2013 record of 10-4, placing them in third in the OUA’s regular season standings and giving them good positioning for playoff qualification.
The white and purple team continues to be led by
Garrett May who is currently in first in the OUA. May holds a record of 222 kills in 48 games played, with a 5.27 points per game average, and a total 250 points.
Men’s vs. Ryerson – 8:00 p.m.
The Rams head to Alumni Hall to challenge the Western Mustangs for the second time this season. Currently holding sixth place in the OUA with a regular season record of 5-9, the Rams sit just below their neighbours, the Toronto Varsity Blues with 20 games for and 32 against.
Western took charge of Ryerson’s court when they last met the Rams in October, defeating them in straight sets 3-0. Most recently, the Ryerson Rams rallied with the Waterloo Warriors where they fell in three quick sets. The Rams pushed to compete but were unable to joust the Warriors off their path and fell short (19-25, 23-25, 16-25), losing 0-3.
The Rams are led by Robert Wojcik, who has 172 kills, 192 points, and a 4.28 point per game average, making him good for third place in the OUA regular season standings. Ryerson hopes to take charge of the court this weekend in effort to reverse the fates of their last meeting with the Mustangs.
Mustangs vs. Toronto Varsity Blues – 7:00 p.m.
The Toronto Varsity Blues are heading down the road this weekend to challenge their Mustang rivals in Alumni Hall. This will be the second meeting between the two teams, the initial game being held by the Blues but controlled by the Mustangs who stole a 3-0 victory from Toronto. The Varsity Blues currently hold a 5-9 season record, sitting just above the Ryerson Rams in sixth.
The Toronto Varsity Blues took command of the court in their last contest by defeating the Guelph Gryphons in five sets (25-21, 18-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-10) 3-2.
