A 5-0 victory over the Windsor Lancers on October 26 extended the Western Mustangs' (6-1) win-streak to three games and moved them into a tie with Queen's for first place in the OUA . The team will look to continue their recent success when they head to Toronto to take on Ryerson (2-4-0) and the Varsity Blues (4-1-1) this weekend.
Kelly Campbell will look to continue her strong play for the Mustangs after recording her second shutout of the season in Western's victory over the Lancers to take sole possession of first place in the OUA in both save percentage at .963 and wins with five. In the six games that she has been in net for the Mustangs she has been seen a whopping 163 shots come her way and only allowed six to go by her.
Cassidy Gosling is also on fire to start the season, recording her first goal of the season and her team leading sixth assist against the Lancers Saturday to give her a team leading seven points in seven games. She is joined at the top of the Mustangs point-total board by
Marlow Pecora and Carly Roth, who both have three goals and three assists on the season to sit tied for second behind Gosling.
Toronto Varsity Blues - Friday, November 1 at 7:30 p.m.Â
After losing for the first time this season to UOIT on October 5, the Varsity Blues have failed to lose in regulation in their last four games, going 3-0-1 against Guelph, Brock, Laurentian, and Nipissing to move into fifth in the OUA with nine points. Their only loss during that four game period came against Laurentian, who took Toronto to extra time before pulling out a 3-2 win in the shootout.
A big reason for the Varsity Blue's success this season has been the play of fourth-year goaltender Nicole Kesteris, who sits first in the OUA in goals against average at 1.00, third in save percentage at .955, and tied for second in shootouts with Campbell at two. She's coming off of a 4-0 shutout victory over Nipissing on October 27 which saw her record 16 saves for her second shutout and third win of the season.
Ryerson - Saturday, November 2 at 2:30 p.m. - Watch Live
The game against Ryerson will take place on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the newly re-renovated Mattamy Athletic Centre, formerly known as the Maple Leaf Gardens, and will be the first meeting between the two teams since January 26 of last year when the Mustangs scored  a 4-1 victory at home. The Rams have yet to win a game at the MAC this season after dropping their only home game of the season to York 5-2, a stat they will be looking to change when the Mustangs roll into town Friday.
The Mustangs won't be the only team coming into the game off a 5-0 victory as Ryerson shutout Laurentian on October 27 for their first victory of the season. Emma Crawley made 23 saves for the shutout while rookie forward Clare Sabine and third-year defenseman Jessica Hartwick both notched a goal and an assist to help propel the Rams to victory. Sabine's two-point night was the first of her short OUA career and gives her a team-leading four points in six games.
