Justin Scapinello each had 12 kills to help the Western Mustangs defeat the Nipissing Lakers in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at the Robert J Surtees Student Athletics Centre.

Saturday's contest was the first ever meeting between the two squads with the Lakers joining the OUA this season. The Mustangs now move to 2-1 on the season while Nipissing sits at 0-5.

Western came out firing in the first set, boasting a 40% kill percentage to take the opening frame 25-22. The purple and white kept the momentum rolling into the second and didn't slow down, eventually winning the set 25-11. The third set would prove to be a closer affair, but the Mustangs would still come out on top, claiming the set 25-21 to win the match 3-0.

Douglas Austrom led the Mustangs with 10 digs on the night, while
Phil James and
Luke Sim each contributed two blocks.

Western returns to the court on Sunday afternoon to take on the OUA-leading York Lions. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at York's Tait McKenzie Centre.
