Weekend Preview: Mustangs trying to extend winning streak to seven games

The Mustangs continue their OUA regular season at home this week as they prepare to face Laurentian and Algoma at Alumni Hall after an undefeated weekend in Toronto last week against the Toronto Varsity Blues and Ryerson Rams. The team now boasts a 5-1 record and sits tied for first in the OUA West Division. So far this season the Mustangs have found a solid offensive strategy, averaging 73 points per game and shooting 39% from the three point line.

Fourth-year guard Jenny Vaughan continues to dominate for the Mustangs this season, averaging 22.5 points-per-game to take the top spot on the OUA women's basketball leaderboard, a full three points-per-game ahead of the OUA's next top scorer. Vaughan recorded a game-high 30 points in the Mustangs latest contest, going 8-12 on field goals and making 13 of 15 shots from the foul line against Ryerson last Saturday.

The Mustangs will be looking to add two more wins to their record and extend their five game winning streak as they face Laurentian and Algoma this weekend.

The Voyageurs have been struggling with scoring, averaging 50 points per game, while third-year guard Danielle Harris leads the team in scoring with 13.2 points per game this season.

New to the OUA in 2013-14 the Algoma Thunderbirds are facing some growing pains this year as they have yet to find a win after six regular season contests. The team is led by rookie guard Sydney Resch with 5.8 points per game, followed closely by second-year guard Karissa Kajorinne with 5.7 points per game.

Game time is scheduled for Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
