Box Score LONDON, Ont. - A team-high 26 points from Dani Elgadi helped the Brock Badgers defeat the Western Mustangs men's basketball team 88-78 on Wednesday night at Alumni Hall.
Wednesday's victory is the first of the season for Brock and they now hold a 1-8 record, while the Mustangs fall to 2-7 on the year.
The Mustangs started out hot, opening the game with a 17-5 run over the first five minutes of the contest that included seven points from starter
Quinn Henderson. Despite falling behind early the Badgers began to claw their way back, outscoring the Mustangs for the remainder of the quarter to cut Western's lead to 24-18 after one.
In the second quarter Brock's superior shooting percentage, they'd finish the first half outshooting Western 48% to 26%, began to take over, slowly chipping away at the Mustangs lead and taking control in the final minute, closing out the half with a 36-35 lead.
The Badgers started out the second half on a 6-2 scoring run but
Eric McDonald and
Greg Morrow helped the Mustangs keep pace, scoring six points each to make it a 60-58 lead for Brock after 30 minutes.
Morrow only improved in the final quarter, scoring 14 of Western's 20 points in the frame, however Elgadi countered with 15 points for the Badgers, giving Brock an 88-78 victory.
Leading the way for the Mustangs offence was
Greg Morrow who was the team's leading scorer for the third consecutive game, scoring 27 points. Forward
Peter Scholtes (17 points) and McDonald (16 points) rounded out the top three scorers for Western. Elgadi led all Brock scorers with 26, while CJ Smith (21 points), Tshing Kasamba (15 points) and Brandon John (15 points) were all in double digits as well.
Western will anxiously await their next game on Saturday, November 30, when they close out the first half against the McMaster Marauders at Alumni Hall. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. and fans can watch live via Mustangs TV.
