Mustangs face Windsor and Nipissing this weekend

A 6-1 win over RMC and a 3-2 loss to Carleton last weekend have the Mustangs sitting in a tie for fifth place in the OUA West with the York Lions, one spot back from where they sat at this time last week. Western will look to close out November in the top four when they take on Windsor at home on Friday and Nipissing on the road Sunday afternoon.

The Mustangs got great performances from both of their goalies last weekend, with Greg Dodds stopping 27 of 28 shots from RMC and Josh Unice turning away 36 of 39 against Carleton. Unice's standout performance against the Ravens raises his season save percentage to 0.913 while Dodds currently leads all OUA goaltenders with a 1.20 goals against average and a 0.961 save percentage through four appearances.

Rookie forward Stefan Salituro continued his recent hot streak on Saturday, potting his sixth goal only 1:29 into the game to give him three goals and six points in his last five games. Sophomore Daniel Erlich had his own hot streak snapped Saturday night, failing to record a point for the first time in 11 games this season. Erlich and the Mustangs will look to get back on track when Windsor rolls into town on Friday night.

Windsor Lancers – Friday, November 29 at 7:00 p.m. – Watch Live on Mustangs TV

The Mustangs and the Lancers have yet to meet so far this season but it's safe to say the two teams will be quite familiar with each other by the time December ends. Friday night's 7:00 p.m. matchup at Thompson Arena will be followed up by a meeting at Comerica park in Detroit as part of the 2014 SiriusXM Hockeytown Winter Festival on December 16.

On offence, the Lancers are currently led by third-year forwards Spencer Pommells and Drew Palmer, who have combined for 28 points in Windsor's first 13 games. Pommells sits first on the team with six goals and 15 points while Palmer is a close second with 10 assists and 13 points.

In net, junior backstop Parker Van Buskirk has been a workhorse for the Lancers all season, making an appearance in all 13 of Windsor's games so far. He currently sits third in the OUA in minutes played at 721 and heads into the weekend sporting a 2.83 goals against average and a 0.908 save percentage.

Nipissing Lakers – Sunday, December 1 at 2:00 p.m.

After their late game Friday, the Mustangs will hit the road for their first and only trip to North Bay this season to take on the Nipissing Lakers. The Lakers currently sit second last in the OUA East, five points ahead of last place RMC with six.

Although the team has had trouble winning this season, at least two of their players have had no trouble scoring so far. Connor O'Donnell and Grant Toulmin are currently tied for third and fourth in league scoring, respectively, with O'Donnell putting up six goals and 15 assists and Toulmin registering 10 goals and 10 assists.

Saturday's game will be earlier than usually for the Mustangs as the puck is set to drop at 2:00 p.m.
