Western defeats Queen’s in four sets

Box Score KINGSTON, Ont. -- The Western Mustang's men's volleyball team made their way to Kingston to play the Queen's Gaels Friday night and came away with a 3-1 win with set scores of 20-25, 25-21,25-15 and 25-23 at the Athletics and Recreation Centre.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 7-2 in the OUA regular season, while the Gaels drop to 3-6.

Errors proved costly for the Mustangs in the first set. And despite only having 10 kills in the frame, the Gaels went up 1-0 with a set score of 25-20.

Not wanting to start their last roadtrip before the holidays with a loss, Western came back strong in the second set with a score of 25-21.

Western put up 15 kills with only 2 technical errors and went on to win the third set with a score of 25-15. They were able to keep up the momentum heading into the fourth and final set where they defeated the Gaels with a close score of 25-23, taking the match 3-1.

Mustang Garrett May led the team with 15 kills and a service ace, followed by third-year Justin Scapinello who contributed 11 kills and 10 digs.

Mike Tomlinson led the Gaels with 16 kills, five services aces and 15 digs.

The Mustangs stay in Kingston to battle against the Royal Military College on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 8:00 p.m.
