Western downs York in four sets

TORONTO – The Western Mustangs men's volleyball team picked up their second victory of the weekend, defeating the York Lions 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20) on Sunday afternoon at Tait McKenzie Gymnasium.
 
Western now holds a 3-1 record early in the 2013-14 season while York drops to 4-2 on the year.
 
Garrett May led the Mustangs offence with 22 kills in the match while Phil James recorded seven blocks and Matt Silver earned 12 digs. Ray Szeto topped the Lions scoresheet with 21 kills and Nicolas Pirnat had 15 digs in the loss.
 
The teams split the opening two sets with Western claiming the first and York the second before the Mustangs began to take control in the third frame, converting 45 percent of their kill attempts to win the set 25-19. The purple and white continued their momentum in the final set closing the match out with a 25-20 set victory.
 
Western will be back on the road next weekend, taking on the Windsor Lancers on Sunday, November 10 at 3:00 p.m.
